Finished Art Works
Wood Letter Form: G
Dimensions: 7 x 11 x 4 1/2 in

My materials list for my wood sculpture includes wood, wood glue, and a gloss finish.
In response to completing this sculpture, I believe my wood letter was the most time consuming and technically challenging. I had to learn and successfully operate different saws and sanders. I learned to be patient with myself and how to handle the wood that would get me a favorable finish. At certain times I was doubtful of myself and if what I was dreaming of was achievable, but with exceptional critiques and guidance I am content with the outcome. This project and the others were a source of empowerment because I learned basic life skills and gained knowledge about plenty of tools that are going to be in my tool belt from now on.

Lastly for this first project, if I had more time I would absolutely do nothing more to it. This came out exactly how I wanted it to and I delighted with the end results. I believe I had enough to achieve everything I wanted even if the plans for this particular project changed quite a few times from the original design and concept. Even though I am in love with the letter form, I can pick apart my piece and notice the small things that can be adjusted. I would possibly adjust the points on both sides so that there is a more geometric shape and it has a better refinement to the final product.

Wire Letter Form: e
Dimensions: 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 x 11 1/2 in

My materials list for this sculpture includes galvanized wire at different gauges and colored jewelry wire also at different gauges.

My response for the wire project is that I felt as though this was the easiest to complete. I would work on this whenever I had a free moment and found that wrapping the wire was very tedious and time consuming. I find the different colors to be very unique, eccentric, and matches my own personality. I also changed the design concept of this sculpture so that I would have more time to work on my wood and metal sculptures, so it got the back burner of attention. Because of this, I believe the project does not fit well next to the other two sculptures.

If I had to change anything if I had more time I would most likely continue to wrap wire around the entire spiral. This way the wire could hold itself up and it wouldn't rely on the two tent like anchors to hold it up. The very top of the sculpture was able to hold itself up, but at the base and in the middle of the letter form it could not hold its own weight. I believe with some more wire I could possibly get it to stand up on its own. I would also clean up the sharp points at some of the end of the wire. As you hold it and look around you can see these sharp ends and they hurt.

Metal Letter Form: H
Dimensions: 10 1/2 x 9 x 10 1/2 in

My materials for my metal letter form include scrap pieces of metal.

My response for my metal letter form begins first with saying welding is such an empowering experience to learn. There is such fear invoked when first learning how to approach such a tool and
what is required to know before you begin, but once you take the first step to learning the essentials, that fear fades away. Welding for the first time was frightening and thrilling at the same time. I am fascinated with the process and look forward to learning what I can create with welding. As for the actual letter form, I think its incredible and every piece has its own unique element. It represents my family and how we are all together as one, but we are each different individuals with different personalities.

If I had more time to work on this particular project and change some elements I would. I would first clean my nasty bubbled up welds more and then try to weld over the areas that had a weaker weld. I am not too critical on myself since this is the first time I have ever learned to weld and have ever used such a tool, but I did learn weld up or down on an object that is standing up right is quite difficult. With my new knowledge of the difficulty level, I would re-weld. I would also clean up some areas that contain more rust, so that the original metal could shine through.

Trash Can
Title of Wearable Wings: Trash Can
Dimensions: 13 1/2 x 62 x 6 inches.
Materials: 9 gauge wire, 18 gauge wire, found trash and objects, recycled cables and chargers, and hot glue.
In response to my Trash Can wearable wings project, I believe they reflect my beliefs and stance on sustainability, society’s consumption of goods, and pollution. This is a new era I have moved into when creating my art and I am growing into the purpose of why I create art. My use of trash, that being my own personal trash as well, shows my consciousness to the pollution problems today. Instead of throwing out the everyday products my family uses, I decided to give it a purpose. This thought process has made me aware of how much I mindless throw things out. The process to create these wings changed throughout their creation, but the final piece is what I envisioned when prompted with this project. I hope my piece creates a dialogue and awareness between my viewers and possibly myself as I wear the wings.

If granted more time to spend working on these wings, I would use that time to continue glueing trash onto them. I feel as though the more trash they contain the more the statement speaks for itself. I also acknowledge my wings need a better mechanism of how to be worn, but I like how the cables carry on the message of reusing what we already have. For this, I believe I could have braided cables together for more support. This addition would simply add more stability for the back and the wings could possibly be put on easily. At their current state I need someone to support underneath the wings so that I can put them on.

The location where I have taken my photos is a common place where people leave their trash and dump household objects. It is just straight down the street from my house.

I have taken photos here of beds, couches, trash bags full of trash, old used tire, and etc.

I picked this location because of these reasons and it is a part of my wings identity.
The Tale of Two Countries
Dimensions: 16 x 13 x 6. 75 inches
Materials: Recycled wood, wood stain, plaster, clay, artificial grass, kinetic sand, and green, copper, gray paint.
In response to this project, I really enjoyed coming up with this conceptual idea and the process of the project. I am extremely fortunate that my project came out exactly how I wanted. I am inspired to even carry this into a series and look forward to what comes from this simple project. From the process, I gained a lot of knowledge on what process work best for me time wise and conceptually. For this project I need broken fingers and when working with the clay some would turn out broken and because of my concept they were still useful.
If I had more time for this project, I would first off make the base larger so I could add more of a dramatic aspect by the scale at which the project would have been. Secondly, I would have elaborated on the decor on each side of the piece. On the green grass side, I considered making a white fence to add to the dramatic wealthy aspect that I drew on. On the sand side, I wanted to add rocks of different sizes and colors all throughout and around the edge of its side. Lastly, I will find a better glue to hold the fingers better to the base. Because of the sand it is hard to keep the fingers in the in place. The super glue mixes with the sand and it then does not connect to the wood base below.
