Hello! My name is Gabriella Hoss and I am currently a junior at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi. I am working towards my degree; a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and believe I should graduate in the year 2023. My focuses and obvious hobbies are printmaking and photography. I am as well interested in starting a minor to break up my schedule from all art courses, but have not yet decided on which area to further my academic journey. Three goals I have for this semester: apply to the BFA program and get in, decide on what minor would work for me, and lastly focus more on my printmaking skills outside of the other courses I am taking.
A few artist that have fascinated me and that I take pleasure in researching more of their work are Constantin Brancusi, Umberto Boccioni, and Duchamp. I have learned about these artist from art history courses and I find each of their own uniquenesses in myself. Like Duchamp, I find myself leaving things up to chance in my prints. I go with the flow and experiment with if something will work or not and how the end result will look. I also find myself loving one idea, but changing one small thing from edition to the next, much like these artist.
In the fall semester of 2020, I took Design II and that course really opened my eyes to the world of construction and assemblage. I had never before made something myself that required a whole new tool belt of knowledge. Design II showed me how any tool is capable of being a resource to help one create their project.
I don't have any previous knowledge or first hand experience with sculpture, so I do not know the proper techniques or tools, but I am ready to learn. From art history, I have seen artists do molds and cast and that has as well peeked my personal interest.
I am personally not too nervous for this course in the aspect of learning and creating. I want to have an open mind and learn everything I can. I am nervous about some of the tools we will be using. I understand something can go wrong and that's the fear I have, but that excites me too. I am excited to learn how to use the "big and scary" tools because that takes away my fear and thought of not being able to do or use something. I am also very excited for the Wings project because I already have a few ideas of what I would use, but I am not certain on what idea would represent who I am best.
