In reflection to Tiffany Black and her presentation for the Bill and Hillary Clinton airport, I would like to first say, I was astounded by her attention to detail about the natural world around her and what was specific to the state of Arkansas. She went as far as to make sure the animals, plants, and bugs used were not invasive species and that they would be represented correctly. I found the design to be very beautiful and fit the space accordingly. I personally also loved the idea of following the butterflies. This was an ingenious idea for travelers and staff of the airport to use a path and marker to follow. I imagine myself getting lost, asking for directions, and being told to follow the butterflies.
I found it equally as interesting to observe how many modifications and designs Ms. Black came up with and presented to the committee. I believe she was well prepared and obviously knows from experience that the first idea we come up with most likely is not the final product. Then to also note, Tiffany Black could do the whole project with a palette of seven colors is also remarkable. The project deserves the entire palette, but once again it shows she is flexible and greatful for the opportunity in the first place.
The presentation was very pleasing and informative as well. This was a great example for artists seeking out how to present their ideas, beliefs, and themselves to future commissioners, employees, and boards. I believe Tiffany Black set up herself for success, she made sure things flowed from one topic to the next, and she made it clear she has experience, but could still be "coachable" when need be. She also noted she made opportunities happen for herself and she put her work and herself out there for people to notice which I find inspiring. I really am looking forward to seeing the final design in the airport.
